Everyone is welcome at this event. The Wanderlust Women is a hiking and adventure group for Muslim women. The vision is to normalise Muslim women exploring the great outdoors, and to make women feel confident when they are outdoors. The Wanderlust Women are featured in a film “A landscape for all” in the Forty Farms Exhibition.
The Wanderlust Women run courses on navigation and outdoor skills and encourage women to participate in hiking, rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, wild swimming, wild camping, paddle boarding, mountain biking and expeditions abroad. They organise retreats for Muslim women all over the UK, which involve learning, skills, adventure, mindfulness and connecting to God through nature. There is an image and stigma of Muslim women who wear the niqab and hijab, as they may not look ‘outdoorsy’. The Wanderlust Women aim is to change these misconceptions and have conversations with different types of people and share their experiences.
The Wanderlust Women believe the outdoors is for everyone and everyone should feel welcome and represented. They are giving women a chance to try new activities and get involved and create a safe space for Muslim women to enjoy the outdoors, together connecting to nature and God.
