Allotments

Ownership of the allotments sites in Penrith transferred to Penrith Town Council from Eden District Council in July 2016.

The allotments are  managed and run by the Penrith Allotment Association who are continuing to do this on behalf of Penrith Town Council.  The Association handles all enquiries, manages vacancies and maintains a waiting list for all the allotment sites.

Allotment Plots

The Town Council has allotment plots across four sites in Penrith as follows:

Salkeld Road – 21 Full, 16 Half plots.
James Street – 11 Full, 6 Half plots.
Folly Lane – 26 Full, 28 Half plots.
Brackenber Close – 66 Full, 64 Half plots  PLUS 38 separate hen runs.

Volunteer Advertisement for the role of Chair 

Location: home based

Expected Hours: variable also attendance at committee meetings quarterly and the AGM once a year.

Remuneration unpaid: expenses incurred in undertaking the role will be reimbursed.

Overview

Penrith Allotment Association is a non-profit making organisation which assists all members to promote allotment gardening as a leisure pursuit and promote the interest of plot holders.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident volunteer Chair who is currently a plot holder to join our committee. For this role you would need to have good people skills and be confident in leading meetings to ensure it runs smoothly. If required training can be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Together with the Secretary liaise with the Landlord

Carry out regular inspections of plots with other committee members.

Responsible for ensuring minor works and repairs are carried out.

Liaison with the site’s committee members, ensuring they communicate with plot holders.

Annual review of all accounts prior to AGM.
